Dance In The Kitchen

It was a wonderful week of soaking in the little moments. I didn’t do any writing. I didn’t edit a single podcast. I only worked on my screen play for about an hour. It could all wait while I enjoyed time with my parents. While I watched my dad play games with the boys. While I painted with my mom and daughter. It was a beautiful break and of course I was sad when they had to head back home.

The day they left we went on a trail ride and took in the beauty of a local wildlife preserve. I wanted to make sure my kids knew it was okay to be bummed because they missed their grandparents already, but in that same moment it was good to be happy about the present circumstance.

This morning I woke up early and focused on todays projects, I have some work to catch up on. I have a lot of cleaning and laundry to do. But I am excited to get after it. I turned on my music and started cleaning the kitchen. I couldn’t help what happened next. My hips started to shake my hands went in the air and there was some definite clapping. A song came on that brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. Then another and another. My playlist was on fire and so was I. Kids entered the kitchen and started dancing with me. I looked at them and thought I hope this is one of the moments that they think of when they are grown up. Dancing with their mom and laughing in the kitchen on a Saturday morning.

I am still smiling hours later and still have a house to clean and projects to continue. But I’m not in a hurry to get things done. Life should be enjoyed. We should stop and celebrate the moments. Can you imagine if every day started with a mini dance party? That joy has no choice but to seep into the rest of your day. Yes, all of the projects will be completed but they will be done with a smile on my face and a little extra happiness in my heart.

Have a wonderful weekend…and if you get a chance dance in your kitchen.
